To Samuel – Month 2

Dear Sam, please forgive Mommy for writing a really short post for this month! Your second month in the world has been an absolute blur. I seem to remember that with your big brother, about this time Mommy was relaxing, not doing much at all, just enjoying being a new Mommy. Things sure are different this time around! But don’t worry OK? You are every bit as loved, cherished, and cared for as your older brother was when he was this age. Things are just busier. For one thing, Mommy is already working again! No year off to spend with the new baby this time, I have to go to work part-time to support the new baby!

This has been a rough month for you too, Sam. The car accident we were in when you were three weeks old was not what you needed! You have a “sprain” somewhere in your mid-back, and there are days when you just scream ALL DAY. Mommy and Daddy can’t get mad at you because you’re in pain, but it’s really stressful! We don’t know what to do about it except keep taking you to your chiropractor treatments and hoping you’ll eventually be all straightened out. Sometimes the only way we can keep you happy is if you’re moved every few minutes. There is no good position, you just need to constantly change positions. Listening to you cry, and cry, and cry some more and then scream, is heartbreaking to say the least! Daddy gets pretty mad sometimes when you’re screaming – not at you, but at the lady that rammed into us. He wishes people would just slow down and not be SO OBSESSED with getting somewhere faster. No 3 week old (to two month old) baby should have to go through what you are experiencing!

In spite of the pain you always seem to be in, you are eating and growing really well! Around the five-week mark you started PIGGING OUT – you must have been gearing up for your six-week growth spurt (or having it early, haha). In the evenings you would eat almost nonstop! You’re going to be a giant by the end of this month if you don’t slow down.
♥♥♥
The other big event for you this month was your first round of vaccinations. You actually went for those right on your two-month birthday! What a birthday present eh? Mommy was apprehensive… I hated taking your brother, and I hated that I had to do the same thing to you. But you did great! You screamed bloody blue murder when the needle went in, of course, but after the shots were done you just ate a little bit of milk and then you were happy. And you had NO after-effects… you didn’t even need Tylenol. We hope all your other appointments go as well!
♥♥♥
Right now, Sam, we’re just hoping your back gets better soon. Both Mommy and Daddy are looking forward to the day where you can sleep well again, and maybe even stay in the same position for more than 10 minutes. But until that happens… we will be here for you, and give you as much relief as we can, and we LOVE you. We try our hardest to protect you from the bad things that the world dumps on us, and if we can’t, we’ll always help you through.
